Our client, a Tier 1 global mining organisation at the forefront of energy transition and sustainable resource development, is seeking a highly experienced Principal Health & Safety professional to play a critical leadership role on a flagship project in Western Australia.

This FIFO role will be offered on a 2:1 roster, with potential flexibility toward a 4:3 roster, supporting both project delivery and operational readiness phases.

Ihre Aufgaben

As the Lead Health & Safety Advisor, you will be responsible for establishing and governing robust safety systems across complex, high-hazard environments. Partnering closely with engineering, commissioning, operations, and major contractors, you will ensure the project meets regulatory requirements, corporate safety standards, and critical control frameworks.

This role requires a strong blend of strategic leadership, technical process safety expertise, and operational engagement, with significant visibility and influence across senior leadership and project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and implement the Health & Safety strategy aligned with corporate standards and material risk frameworks
  • Provide expert guidance to senior leadership on H&S risks, controls, performance, and resourcing
  • Lead process safety initiatives including Bowtie analysis, HAZOP, HAZID, and LOPA assessments
  • Establish and govern critical control standards for catastrophic risks including hydrogen, process safety, HV systems, and mobile equipment
  • Develop and oversee risk registers, safety case documentation, and major hazard management processes
  • Embed H&S requirements into engineering design, procurement, and contractor management processes
  • Support commissioning readiness, operational transition, and pre-start-up safety reviews
  • Lead critical control verification programs and assurance activities
  • Review incident investigations using ICAM or equivalent methodologies
  • Ensure contractor safety systems, permits, and risk assessments meet project standards
  • Maintain strong field presence across construction, commissioning, and early operations
  • Drive continuous improvement in serious injury and fatality prevention and process safety performance
  • Support regulatory compliance, audits, and external assurance readiness

Ihre Qualifikationen

  • Experience in Health & Safety within mining, energy, chemicals, or heavy industrial environments
  • Demonstrated experience supporting major construction, commissioning, or operational readiness phases
  • Strong expertise in critical risk management, process safety, and catastrophic hazard controls
  • Experience leading risk assessments including HAZOP, HAZID, Bowties, and incident investigations
  • Experience working in complex contractor environments and large-scale projects
  • Experience with hydrogen systems, explosive atmospheres, or dangerous goods environments
  • Operational experience in processing plants, metallurgical facilities, or energy projects
  • Experience establishing safety systems for new or emerging technologies
  • Tertiary qualification in Workplace Health & Safety, Engineering, or Process Safety
  • ICAM Lead Investigator certification or equivalent
  • Internal Auditor qualification (WHS Management Systems) highly desirable
  • Strong understanding of Western Australian WHS and Mining legislation
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholders
  • Highly developed communication and engagement skills
  • Practical, solutions-focused approach to risk management
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Commitment to building and sustaining a positive safety culture
